CMA 1 exam - passed!
I took the revised CMA Part 1 exam this Wednesday at the first try. I passed the exam with 600 scores. Not bad considering scores range from 200 to 700 with the passing score set at 500. I am satisfied with the result and give myself a gift - shark tooth in the header:-). So, you can congratulate me on the first step to become The Certified Management Accountant
.
There are two advice for CMA1 exam candidates:
- learn the Learning Outcome Statements (LOS) very carefully. If LOS contains the term, this term may appear during the exam;
- the time is very limited, so the use of the test prep software is the keystone of success.
I want to say that this blog was very helpful in my exam preparation. The questions became clear after posting, so the blogging time expenditures can be considered as paid off.
So, keep learning!
PS: The monitors in the testing center have the refresh rate set to 60Hz or lower. Is it special tactics to give the motivation to finish the test and be out of testing center as soon as possible?

Hi Raju!
What study materials do you use for preparation?
I can tell you about my preparation with Gleim's textbooks and test prep software (www.gleim.com).
1. First, I examined the LOS (Learning Outcome Statements) and found those chapters from Gleim's textbooks, which were aligned with the LOS. It was necessary because I used study materials for previous (not revised) exams, therefore I had to compound different part from different books during preparation.
So, the first step is to understand the exam's coverage, scope.
2. Second, I read and understood the chapter and answered the MCQs (multiple-choice questions) for this chapter. When my grade report became 65-70%, I went to the next chapter.
Therefore, the second step is to learn and understand the exam's theory and become familiar with MCQs.
3. Thirdly, I examined VERY carefully the LOS again. Every word. I sought the terms, which were omitting during step 2. After that, I reread the theory. And answered the MCQs, of course.
4. MCQs, MCQs, MCQs, MCQs, MCQs ..... :-)
Until grade report became more then 90%
5. Overviewed LOS last time, and decided that I am ready :-)
Good luck in your preparation!

Hi mazoo,
I am planning to give the CMA - part 1 papers by end September- early october. And was wondering if you are willing to lend/rent/sell your Gleim CD - part 1(question bank) to me. I have already bought the CMA study material from IMA, but unforunately they don't provide the pratice questions.
Please let me know.
Thx
Ri

Hi, Ri!
I live in Moscow, Russia (long delivery time + expensive shipment) and my Gleim CD for old, not revised, CMA part 1.
I recommend you to buy Gleim's MSQs here:
http://www.gleim.com/products/productdetails.php?proID=5159
The price 49.95 is good and you can download software and start to answer the questions right after the payment. You don't need to wait the delivery and pay for postage.
Though I have all Gleim CDs for old parts, I bought new questions for my revised CMA part 2 there.

Hi Mazoo
I got a qestion....I ahve studied real hard for the cma...and although I stilldo have some aspect that I am not quite sure about...I am pretty confident...or actually, infact, sick and tired of studying and want to get it over with...lol
Yet, what really worried me is thatwhile attempting the Gleim test bank I still get around 70-78% ...is that good? I mean all I want is to make the 500 cut...I do not care about getting good marks or anything...
what do u think?
wish me luck....my test is on the 27 september...

Gents,
I am planning to write tha CMA exams and have not passed any parts yet. Do you think it is wise to go with the revised version of CMA rather than the old version as there is a deadline of Dec 31, 2007 to finish all the 4 parts of Old version to become certfied.
Also I have been out of touch with Accouting as I graduated in 1999 with BS in Accounting and have worked in the computer field but now I wish to get certified as I am interested in going back to my Accouting roots.
Is it possible to get certifed in like 2 years ie pass all 4 parts with old version.
And finally what is the best test prep for this, is it Gliem or are there any better products out there.
Any comments will be greatly appreciated.

Newbee,
You can join to Previous CMA Program only if you were enrolled prior July 1, 2004. Otherwise, you should take Revised exams.
Here, you can find my thoughts about study materials

Hope, it helps.

Hi Mazoo,
Congrats on passing the exam. I am due to take cma level 1 next week. what i wanna know is are the mcq's on the gleim website similiar to those on the exam? are they the same level of difficulty? thanks a lot for youur help and best of luck in future

Hi,
I think Gleim's average question is more difficult than exam's average question. Especially regarding computational questions. If you get >85% using Gleim CD (or website?), you can be assured you'll pass the exam.

I just passed the 1st part of the CMA exam (550). I used Gleim's book and test software. I was a little nervous as I was continually getting 70% on the practice tests. I think that Gleim's questions approximated what you would see on the actual exam. In fact, they might even be a little tougher.

hi people,
it's really nice to see this post. it's damn good useful.
i m planning to give part I in coming months.(Revised)
though i have read most of the parts of the blog,
I have come to conclude that gleim's test preparation software is must for exams.
and what else i should buy? gleim's books would work for basic concepts since I have no background in accounting. should I buy book or software. Test prep is i m going to buy.
thanks.

I am also planing to give CMA-1 in coming months.
and I am studying from Gliems, CMA learning System, and other suggested Textbooks of Lipsey for economics and Daniel for Global Business.
I just wanna ask, whether Horngren's Cost and Managerial Accounting is enough to prepare for Quantitative methods as I am also following Gleims, and Learn CMA or should I buy other books as well?
So Far I have covered, Economics section and Global Business, what time you think that I will be able to give the exam.
Thanks

Hi;
I've read all your entry's about your CMA journey and i'm wondering what is going on now?
And some questions about CMA:
If you got now the CMA certificate is it worth to get through ?
As i know only 27000 people has had this certificate and this could mean is it worthless or it would be very precious?
I'm curious about it...:)

Howdy,
I am preping for the 4th section of the CMA, passing parts 1-3 over the last 6 months. Can anyone give me some guidance....I am finding it difficult to study for (I have only put about 10hrs into it where I did about 100hrs for each of the other sections)...I am doing my MBA congruently with the tests and am hoping that the management topics will simply be a reiteration of class. Did anyone find this test to be the most difficult?
